Common Questions About My Process
Can the timeline be faster or slower?
Absolutely. I've closed deals in as little as 30 days when sellers needed speed, and I've also worked with owners for 6+ months when they preferred a gradual transition. The timeline is entirely based on your needs and comfort level.
What if I'm not ready to sell yet?
Perfect. Some of my best acquisitions started with conversations years before the sale. I'm happy to stay in touch, provide informal advice, and be ready when you are. No pressure, no constant "checking in" – just a resource when you need one.
Do you require seller financing?
No, but many sellers prefer it for tax advantages. I typically pay 70-100% cash at closing. If you want to finance a portion to spread tax liability or maintain income, I'm happy to structure it that way. It's your choice.
What if due diligence uncovers issues?
Every business has issues – I expect to find them. My approach is to work through challenges together, not use them as negotiation weapons. If something is truly deal-breaking, I'll be upfront about it immediately.
How do you value businesses differently than others?
I see value where others don't. My tech background lets me identify automation opportunities, my military experience helps me spot operational improvements, and my enterprise IT knowledge reveals scalability potential. I often pay more because I can create more value post-acquisition.
Will you keep my employees?
That's my goal. Your team knows your business better than anyone – they're assets, not liabilities. I typically enhance their capabilities with training and better tools rather than replacing them. The military taught me that good people are the foundation of any successful operation.
"In the Navy, we had a saying: 'Ship, Shipmate, Self.' Your business is the ship, your employees are the shipmates, and together we navigate the transition. I don't just buy businesses – I become their next captain, committed to the crew and the mission."
— Robert Carnie
